LOW CARBON USAGE POLICY
LOW CARBON USAGE POLICY

There is no question that global warming is a challenge facing all businesses and individuals. Keystone Law wants to play its part in minimising the impact it has on the environment. We are committed to a policy of reduction and recycling. At the present time we do not consider offsetting as a solution as we regard reduction as a more sustainable route.

We recognise that our key environmental impacts are as a result of the emission of greenhouse gases, our generation of waste and our use of energy, water, manufactured products and natural resources and that we have an obligation to reduce them.

Energy Consumption
Keystone Law is growing rapidly. We understand that such growth is usually associated with increased energy use and we are committed to reducing our energy usage by at least 2.5% year on year relative to our growth.

We aim to reduce electrical energy consumption. We will do this by:

  • Reconfiguring our IT hardware
  • Ensuring that all new electrical equipment is as energy efficient as possible taking guidance from the Defra "quick wins" list.
  • Switching off unused lighting
  • Ensuring IT and other equipment is switched off at the end of the day

Recycling and Waste Management
We are committed to reducing our paper use and where possible recycling materials such as paper, cardboard, photocopier/printer cartridges, CDs, batteries, paper and plastics.
In addition to paper recycling, staff are encouraged to make use of designated recycling bins for cans and tins, glass, plastic bottles and cardboard

Travel
We are committed to travel by the lowest carbon means possible. This means using public transport. We encourage staff to commute by bicycle and by foot.

Procurement
Our new printers have double-sided printing options. We procure office paper made from recycled paper and asking existing contractors to use environmentally friendly options. When negotiating new contracts, we will give preference to companies that use biodegradable products and follow sustainable practices.

Pollution
Wherever practical we will prevent the risk of pollution by avoiding the use of environmentally damaging substances, materials and processes.

Awareness/Training
We will promote the communication of environmental policies and practices throughout the firm. We will also increase awareness of environmental responsibilities amongst members of staff and partners.

Action for the future

  • We aim to reduce our absolute levels of carbon emission by more than 5%.
  • We will reduce our energy consumption by re-configuring our IT system so that only essential equipment is in use
  • We will source a low emission taxi company for those journeys where a taxi is unavoidable
  • We will buy recycled products where possible and seek suppliers with good environmental credentials
