As part of an ongoing campaign, law firm with a difference, Keystone Law, has challenged the norms for legal careers with a live installation at Liverpool Street Station complete with the tagline “#SetLawFree”. The installation featured a lawyer trapped in a prison cell, highlighting that a career in law doesn’t have to be this way (but all too often is).

The installation ran from 11th-13th May and was staged in the exhibition space on the main concourse of this major City commuter hub.

Keystone’s main differentiator is that its 160-plus lawyers across the country (as well as a number located abroad) have the freedom and flexibility to create their own work/life balance in terms of how and where they work – whether that be home, in-house with a client, or from one of Keystone’s dedicated central facilities. The firm believes that removing the anxieties of office politics, billing targets and administrative burdens found in so many City law firms, is not only better for the lawyers’ mental health and well-being, but also sets lawyers free to do what they do best. Practicing law and looking after their clients.

Keystone’s Law Set Free campaign has been running since January this year, with a dedicated recruitment portal www.lawsetfree.com. This virtual door to the firm targets potential lawyers with messaging on just how different life in law can be. The site also entices you to try its fully interactive Lifestyle Calculator. Visitors are invited to answer a few simple questions and with the click of a button they can gain insight into how different the picture could look at Keystone Law. So far over 2000 lawyers have used the calculator and over 175 applications have been received. Keystone has outlined an ambitious hiring programme for 2015 (to attract 50 senior partner-level lawyers by the end of the calendar year) and, to date, the Law Set Free campaign has catapulted the firm ahead of plan by 50%. Recent hires have come from leading firms such as Kennedys, Pinsent Masons and Lovells, to name but a few.Founder and managing partner James Knight says, “The inspiration for this Set Law Free installation came through the feedback we’ve received from our latest recruits. So many of them described feeling trapped and frustrated in the traditional law firm structure and cited this as one of their biggest reasons for wanting to move. It’s a theme we have been vocal about online and on social media for some time and this latest campaign is about putting the issue across in a much more physical way. It is designed to make people stop and think about what they are settling for, prompting them to choose another way. The Keystone way.”
